Gopakumar is widely known in the Library profession and beyond for his commendable service to academic libraries and the teaching/training arena. With over 40 years of active involvement in the profession, he not only streamlined the functioning of the academic libraries up to the level of the university library but also headed the department of Library and Information Science for almost eight years. This indicates volumes about his commitment. He is a passionate trainer and loves to train young researchers, educators, and librarians on various library-related subjects, e-content development, and Research Methodology. His training programs are well-received on multiple esteemed platforms. He was head of the University Library of Goa University.  Presently he is heading the Knowledge Centre and Library at Kerala University of Digital Sciences, Innovation and Technology (Digital University Kerala)
